The Corn Bunting population in Britain has undergone a 90% breeding population decline during the period 1970–2010, accompanied by contractions of 27% in winter range since the 1981–1984 Winter Atlas and a 56% contraction in breeding range since the 1968–1972 Breeding Atlas.
The purpose of this collaboration between Essex Birdwatching Society and the RSPB is to undertake a sample survey of Corn Buntings in Essex to help establish up-to-date population estimates and with your help we wish to count the numbers of territory-holding male Corn Buntings in a sample of tetrads (2 km x 2 km square) within the County.
